GOD ANGRILY CLARIFIES 'DON'T KILL' RULE.

Trust the leading satirical American magazine The Onion - whose entire editorial staff only recently moved from somewhere in the sticks out west to the great Manhattan metropolis - to script God's response to the terrorist attacks on America. You'll laugh. And you'll cry. Plenty of other more openly witty fake news reports concerning the oncoming war, especially U.S. Vows to Defeat Whoever It Is We're At War With.

"THANK YOU" America's Tragedy As Seen by the World is at http://manson.exodus.net/thankyou/index2.html

Be warned: this outpouring of international emotion is both beautiful and stirring.

If you are in New York and want to stay involved in rescue and rebuilding efforts - as you should - consider joining the discussion group nyrelief both to receive and contribute updates on relief efforts.

If you are outside New York and want to make a difference, there are many charities that will readily take a donation. Probably the most effective is the American Red Cross. You can make a donation through their own web site or though amazon.com's one-click software.

A central database of charities involved in the relief efforts can be found at http://dailynews.yahoo.com/fc/US/Emergency_Information/

If you wish to get in touch with your elected officials and offer your thoughts regarding the U.S.A.'s likely military actions, you can find faxes (apparently the best form of communication), phone numbers and e-mail addresses through the League of Women Voters at http://www.capwiz.com/lwv/dbq/officials/.
ACT FOR CHANGE is an ongoing element of the Working Assets company, which practices "caring capitalism" as far as such a term is not an oxymoron. Their web site has a form for urging President George Bush and others to show restraint. It can be found at http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/

The Petition for peace and justice, not revenge, had 150,000 signatures as of Sep 20. It strikes a proper balance between seeking justice and avoiding blind retaliation. Please consider signing at

If you want to make a statement about the importance of racial and inter-faith harmony during this difficult time, http://www.us-unite.org/ has some beautiful and poignant posters you can download.

The web site snopes2.com is devoted to sorting out the truth, or lack thereof, of "Urban Legends." In the wake of the attack on New York and America, more of these are circulating than ever. Eaxmples? CNN used old stock footage of Palestinians dancing in the streets after the attacks (they didn't, it was new footage); someone successfully "surfed" their way through the debris from the 81st floor (unattributable); Nostradamus predicted the attack (patently laughable). Kudos to this site, presumably maintained as a labor of love, for maintaining such high standards and providing so much source material.
