A Request

This request should not be coming from the likes of my good self, BUT…

All those years in NYC I always had the current Voice/Press/Onion etc. lying around to keep track on every up-and-coming show. Now I’m tuned into my Broadband all day long but am having trouble finding a site to keep me similarly informed of live gigs. It’s probably staring me right in the face, but hey, help me out here will you?

State the obvious in the Comments below or the Pub…

And have a great weekend

ohmyrockness is probably the most comprehensive web site for gig listings. Cheers!

I knew it was obvious. I just couldn’t think of the site at the time. Thanks Audrey! Happy to know you’re still reading…

filter magazine’s weekly NY email newsletter is pretty handy.

Brooklyn Vegan is a pretty good place to keep up with things, and posts a weekly giglist at Gothamist.

Hey Joly – Nice to know you’re checking in. And I love that you stay so involved in the scene yourself. I link to Broooklyn VEgan from here and he’s kind enough to often reference this site, too. His weekly Gothamist column is partly what I was looking for. That and Oh My Rockness take care of the indie stuff. (Michael: I signed up for Filter’s list.)

I’m actually on a bunch of weekly lists all of which make specific recommendations rather than just provide listings. What I’m missing, and what someone should plug the hole on, is the Time Out/Village Voice style listings that have both dance clubs and live music: I”m as likely to head into town for Gilles Peterson at Shine as I am for My Morning Jacket at Webster Hall. Neither the Voice nor Time OUt sites offer an easy way to get this print info online.

    Cheers all
