Back to School… or not
This is the view from the bedroom this morning:
With the snow due to keep coming for another 8 hours, the first day of school has been cancelled, and I’m starting the New Year working from home. (No broadband!)
Big snowfalls like this are nothing uncommon in these parts, and the main roads are generally kept salted and cleared throughout, so life goes on even if school does not. But still, the frustrated part of us grown-ups asks: why does it have to be today, when we’re back at work and, unlike our kids, can’t justify treating the day as an extra holiday? Couldn’t we have had a foot of snow say, last Monday or Tuesday, at the start of a week off school and work when it would have been more than welcome out on the ski mountains? On the other hand, the US Ski Team, which is hosting Olympic Time Trials all this week on Hunter Mountain, will surely be appreciative of some genuine white stuff.
