Boy ABout Town Number 40: All Around The World
Chapter by Chapter excerpts from Boy About Town: A Memoir, published by Windmill Books/William Heinemann.
Best of all, ‘All Around the World’ was singing about the new while saying we couldn’t forget the old. That was some- thing I really could identify with. Besides, the more I listened to it, the more that feedback guitar solo in the middle sounded like an update on the same section in ‘Anyway Anyhow Anywhere’. Finally, it dawned on me: this was a punk record made by mods. Teenage mods. Mods of the 1970s, mods that I hadn’t realised until now actually existed, mods that I’d thought were confined to the booklet in Quadrophenia. My generation just might have its own Who, after all.
