But Santa Claus Still Exists, Doesn’t He?

Thumbs down to the December issue of Wired magazine for revealing the following myths as… well, myths.

1) Apparently, if you fall into quicksand, you don’t get sucked under until you die: you only sink up to your waist. (Why?)
2) The earth’s rotation has nothing to do with why your bath water rotates clockwise. (Or anti-clockwise, so they say, in the southern Hemisphere.)
3) A penny dropped from a skyscraper would never pick up enough velocity to kill anyone. (But hey kids, please don’t take my word for it.)
4) Swimming after you eat will cause only slight cramps, and only for vigorous swimmers. (So why do I know better than not to run straight after I eat?)
5) And, most disappointingly of all, cow-tipping is not the sport of drunken teenagers after all.

“It would take several semi-sober people and a paralyzed cow. Anyway, cows sleep lying down.”

Those of us who took our kids to see the movie Barnyard this summer will never be the same again.
