Great DJ#2: Our Noel
As I’ve mentioned before, our 3-year old Noel seems to have inherited his dad’s obsession with music. A quick example: Thursday morning, I got him out of bed (my turn for the morning rush), took him downstairs, and before he even had anything to drink or eat, he picked up his acoustic guitar, stuck it round his neck, and set off round the room on a morning chorus of Uncle Rock’s “Polar Bear,” striking power chords in a manner Pete Townshend would surely approve of.
He’s also taken to playing DJ. Being that he’s so in love with music, we’ve let him loose with all the kids’ CDs (of which we now have dozens), and he’s been enthralled to realize there are half-a-dozen different CD players and computers around the house to play them on. Given free reign, he runs from room to room with CDs, blasting out different music all over the house. (Pubber Po1ntman would surely approve!) Wednesday morning, the day before his pre-breakfast guitar performance, when for once I was managing to sleep on beyond Campbell’s mad dash for the school bus, he woke me up by coming in the bedroom, offering a quick “Hi, daddy” and then running for the CD player, turning it up, and blasting me with “Scooby Doo.” It could have been worse: There’s a Barney CD lying round that I haven’t had the heart to throw out!
Posie being the smart mum that she is (it was her idea to buy him the $30 guitar for Christmas), she decided to set him up with an old CD walkman that we no longer use now we have iPods. One pair of kiddie headphones and a couple of mini speakers later, and he has own DJ booth in front of the fireplace. As you can see from this picture, he’s loving it – and he’s not opposed to calling out the crowd to make some noise. You’ve got to love those BPMs.
