Hooray Hooray It’s a Vacation….

It just doesn’t have the same ring, does it? So no, we’re going on holiday – for the first time, believe it or not, since before Noel was born. Posie’s already at her sister’s in Florida with baby Noel, and I’ve just gotten up at the ungodly hour of 4:30am so that Campbell and I can catch a flight to Salt Lake City to, and if you know anything about the topography of the United States then you’ll already know what’s coming, spend a week on its surrounding mountains.

We have three days booked at Solitude and another four nights at Snowbird, which many suggest is the best ski/snowboarding mountain in the United States. God knows they’ve had the right conditions this year: about 550” of snow and still counting. Or put it this way, they’ve had twice as much snow in the last month alone as we had at Hunter on the east coast all season. Even though I’m meant to be a writer, it’s hard to put into words how excited I am about this. I haven’t ski’d anywhere but the East Coast since I lived in England, and Campbell’s four years of snowboarding have been spent exclusively on The Catskills. I at least have an idea what’s in store for us; I don’t think Campbell, who really came good this year, knows what’s about to hit him in terms of deep snow, long runs and open bowls.

We promise to be careful, we promise to use our sunblock and we promise to take note of the altitude: the top of Snowbird is over 11,000’ feet up. I don’t promise not to post here at iJamming now and then, because to me that’s not real work, but I DO promise not to read my e-mails. Those who haven’t had a reply to recent correspondence, it’s been unfathomably busy of late so bear with me See you in The Pub.

I actually found your site through a search for ‘buckler’, as in a ski buckling tool for my girlfriend (not Rick Buckler, although I’m a long-time Weller/Jam fan). Ironically, she and I last skied together at Solitude in early March and we had great conditions as well, 3′ of snow in 5 days. I’ve been to Snowbird several times as well, fabulous, especially Mineral Basin. I just returned from 4 days of skiing in Colorado, also great conditions with fresh snow and blue skies.

OK, about 16-17 years ago a band called Three Colours stayed at my house for several days while touring the States. They were impressed to see a new Echo & The Bunnymen book I had mail-ordered from the UK, Never Stop, written by their manager, Tony Fletcher. Funny, huh?

    Enjoy Utah!

This is the kind of serendipity that makes the web site all worthwhile… Thanks so much for getting in touch. And I hope you will consider signing up at the iJamming! Pub where we need a few more Americans.

Solitude… The Jam… Three Colors… Echo & The Bunnymen. YOu will be in good company.

We didn’t get 3′ of snow at Solitude but we did have that residue of the 19″ dumped the day before our arrival. As you can see from the postcards postings, very very hard to complain!

    Stay in touch

    Tony
