I’m Dreaming Of A Reggae Christmas

What do you give the man who’s already got several thousand CDs and records? Why, the Front Line catalogue of course. A few years back I successfully snagged all 25 newly reissued Greensleeves Classics by Dr. Alimantado, Eek-a-Mouse, Half Pint, Augusto Pablo and the like. This past Friday night, I felt like the proverbial kid in the candy store when invited to dip into boxes upon boxes of Front Line reissues and take my pick. For those who’ve never heard of it (shame!) The Front Line was the Virgin imprint which in the 1970s delivered us Brits the cream of Jamaican reggae and dub. I’ve just acquired myself a packing box full of some 30 CDs by U Roy, Johnny Clarke, The Gladiators, Mighty Diamonds, Culture, I-Roy, Big Youth and more. Repeat after me: You can’t go wrong with this stuff. It’s going to be a mighty fine Christmas round my CD player, I assure you.

Reggae albums of the 1970s had the greatest sleeves.
