I Witness: East Yorkshire


Took the camera with me for the first of two ten-mile running loops round Beverley and the local villages Walkington and Bishop Burton yesterday. This was my final seriously long training run before the Boston Marathon on April 19 and, it dawned on me, the longest I’ve run in my home country. (As a side-note for runners, I switched out of the Vibram Five Fingers after the first loop; I could still really feel some soreness from racing a half-marathon barely a week ago. Tucking into a pair of Asics Gels with the cushioned heels, which I’ve been storing in the UK, merely moved today’s muscle ache from calves to quads.)

Much of the scenery was quintessential rural Britain:

A reminder though, that not everything is bucolic and beautiful and that we take on the countryside at our peril, be it the Catskills or the Yorkshire countryside:
