Now mate, I nearly went over to Nevada Smiths to watch England and if you had I would wouldn’t I… and as to the East River games, well, I mourn them, and still live in the East Village, but I don’t miss the stone and glass carpet that passed for a pitch, or dodging the baseballs if having a kickaround on the grass a couple of hundred metres down.

Glad to see your blog discussionsand comments on a sensible subject, over on mine it’s been hijacked by words like ‘club’ and ‘jung’ and ‘dance’ and ‘sufi-trance’ mostly because of Derek Beres’ book… what I haven’t read lol

I was too disorganized following two farewell parties in two nights to make a plan; just as well as I was driving home that evening or I’d have probably disappeared into that all-day black hole otherwise known as Nevada Smiths on a Saturday.

The one t hing I didn’t comment on is something you’ve noted: the pitch down at the East River has finally been replaced. I ran the track round it a few times and it was all I could do not to get down and make love to the fresh, green, um Astroturf.
