Old Mods Never Die
They just keep playing the 100 Club.
Bruce Foxton’s new band The Casbah Club play the famed Oxford Street venue this Thursday August 11. Opening for them: ex-Chords Chris Pope and Brett Ascott and their new band Pope. I saw The Chords at the 100 Club several times in the old days. Don’t believe I ever saw The Jam play there.
I wonder if those “bury me a mod” friends of mine who dragged me out to that show by The Affair in East London a couple of years back will be going to either of these shows. Probably. Wonder if there will be quite as many short-haired, beer-bellied blokes in Fred Perrys. Probably. Wonder how good
Pope appear to be undertaking a tour of former Jam members. On September 17, in Southampton, they’ll be opening for Rick Buckler’s new band The Gift. According to a blurb on the poster from Danny Baker, The Gift will be “playing the songs we grew up to. A MUST for Jam fans.” I’ll offer no comment to that.
