Another ad scanned in from the May 1939 copy of Punch magazine I recently acquired. You’d be amazed – or perhaps not – by just how many ads in the magazine were for tobacco. And we wonder why so many of our parents and grandparents contracted cancer? This ad is particularly amusing for its association with the British Empire, though it appears careful to avoid the actual word. It can’t help a reference to “darkest Africa” though.
