Spring Snow Storm Special
Hunter and Windham mountains both shut up shop over Easter Weekend: spring rains and sun had already melted away most of the big mid-March snowfall, which came too late to save them from their worst seasons ever. They may yet have regretted their decision. Last week, temperatures dipped back down and dropped enough small increments of snow for Hunter to start looking very skiable again. We get up this morning to find a Nor’Easter passing through – and State-owned Belleayre Mountain proudly advertising itself still open all through this weekend.
I don’t love Belleayre, not compared to the alternatives, but having given myself two weeks off all exercise to recover from the Triathlon I competed in there on March 24, I may just have to visit it one more time this weekend. Given the complete absence of proper snow all the way through later January, it only seems fair we get some mid-April runs in as compensation.
