Take me to Nevada
A perfect moment: Campbell and I in a rental car on the Bay Bridge, a brilliant sunset filling the Pacific sky to our left, leaving behind memories of two fantastic days in San Francisco – my first time ever as a tourist there – and while listening to the classic rock station, on comes British journalist Sylvie Simmons as a guest, talking about people she’s interviewed, and all of a sudden we’re listening to Elton John singing “Take Me To Nevada.” (At least that’s what we think it was called – I’d never heard it before.) Could not be better timed, seeing as we were on our way to Reno, where I am about to sign off from the world for a week, as we head into the desert and Burning Man. Part 2 of my British trip will have to wait – I’m getting all my year’s traveling in in the space of three weeks.
The theme at Burning Man this year? The American Dream. That too is appropriate for the week of the Democratic Convention. We’ll be thinking of Obama while we burn…
