The Books of Brixton
We may have Levon Helm playing at our High School auditorium up in the Catskills this Saturday, but my old Brixton stomping ground goes one better this Thursday May 4, with Lyrics In Libraries:
“A night of experimental sound, lyrics and readings between the bookshelves.”
The line-up is almost a who’s who of post-punk avant-garde. J.G. Thirwell, David Toop, Steve Beresford, Danielle Dax and Steve Lake, among others, will offer music, visuals, lyrics, loops, collages, poetry and other spoken word entities. Unfortunately, such quality of art does not come entirely for free: there’s a £5 entrance fee (£4 concessions). The Brixton Library is at the Brixton Oval, right by the Tube Station. If I was still in the ‘hood, I’d be there.
