Those Damned Comments

Several people have written to me over recent weeks complaining that they can’t leave a Comment on this home page under one of my posts as invited. In fact, despite filling in the ‘Human Verification Code’ that’s meant to ween out such troublemakers, they’re labeled ‘Evil Spambots.’ I can see the problem for myself when I use a browser where I’m not already logged in. It’s all the more annoying because the porn merchants seem to be having no problem getting through the system and every day, I have to remove about 100 porn links from the ‘Moderate Comments’ queue when what I’d like to be doing is publishing intelligent comments from our real readers.

I’ve risked removing the requirements for a working e-mail address, seeing as it hasn’t stopped the real spambots and I moderate all comments anyway. If this doesn’t work, I’ll need to ask around for a better explanation of what’s gone wrong. In the meantime, I invite everyone (especially American readers) to join The Pub and leave their comments there. It only takes a simple registration form and we remain completely spam-free over there. Chances are your comments will be read by more people more often than if you just post here. And in visiting The Pub, please visit this thread about the Comments section and explain what problems you came up against: that way, I can hopefully fix the problem.

Thanks for your patience.

With the dodgy screen captcha thingy gone, let’s see if this works.
