We are the boys who wear Claret and Blue
For barely two seasons (1971-72, 1972-73), I got to see Crystal Palace play in claret and blue, and as a result (which is more than Palace got in those years, boom boom!) I’ve maintained a soft spot for other teams who (still) play in those gloriously old-fashioned colors.
So despite my previous post and my general proclamations of hatred for any other team but the Palace, I’d like to congratulate West Ham United on making it to the FA Cup Final and wish them the best of luck in stuffing it to Liverpool at Wembley next month. (They still play the Cup Final at Wembley, right?) The fact that West Ham are managed by Alan Pardew, hero of Palace’s famous 4-3 Semi-Final victory over the Scousers at claret-and-blue Villa Park back in 1990, lends an air of serendipity to it all and makes this part-time allegiance all the more justified.
Oh, and by the way, if Millwall were to change colors to claret and blue, the above rule would cease to apply.
